students planting in a community gardenWe believe in teaching children about the community and their role in it. That's why all of our centres include a Community Helper component in their program.

Throughout the year, children in all of our centres participate in service projects to assist their local community. Helping others is the central theme of the activities but they can also include appreciation events for those in the community who have affected the lives of children.

These activities teach children about the various needs in the community and promote a sense of responsibility (giving back). Typically the ideas for our Community Helper projects often come from the children themselves.

The OCCCC supports these projects by providing funds to enhance projects or offset their costs.
